From Within is excited to announce our upcoming Kural Dance Drama! We have chosen Thiruvalluvar’s Thirukural as the inspiration for a spectacular Bharatanatyam performance to delight the community. The Thirukural has a total of 1330 couplets. Each couplet is a poem with a purpose, a theme with a moral to tell. Valluvar’s kurals in the Tamil language have exquisite rhyme and meter, concise, universal in appeal and refreshingly modern in outlook.
We have selected 7 of his couplets that drive home good moral values and created an age appropriate script with a rich musical background for each one. The drama includes several scenes that will be tied together in most common practical modern day ‘dance class’ problems. This layering will drive home not only the universality and timelessness of Thiruvalluvar’s wisdom but also hopefully elevate the participants and viewers to a greater level of thinking.
