Nanda started learning Bharatanatyam at age 4, and has been blessed with teachings of venerated gurus at Sri Rajarajeswari Bharatha Natya Kala Mandir in Mumbai. After a gap of nearly 25 years in dance, fate brought her under the attentive and truly artistic tutelage of guru Subhashini, of From Within Academy, with whom Nanda culminated her dream of an arangetram in September 2010. Nanda owns and runs Creative Journeys Inc., a travel and event management company. Nanda is in her “zone” when she dances and she is very excited and eager to be lending her unique sense of devotion and discipline to this beautiful dance form. Nanda has recently moved from Seattle and she is inspired to continue her passion for teaching dance in sunny San Diego.
“Dance is divine. Dance is my Zen. Dance is my saviour. I started Bharatanatyam at age 4, and since then dance has always been an important and vibrant part of my life. Indeed this is true of all forms of dance and has been for as long as I can remember. Raas-Garba at Navratri, Bhangra at Baisakhi and modern/popular dances at parties. However, for me all roads lead to my favourite, Bharatanatyam. Dancing aside, teaching it has become a passion and a devotion to my students. When I’m in my Zen, the world around me ceases to exist and the talams, ragas, adavus and mudras come alive! But to my students, dance means a way to exercise, have fun, learn something new and sometimes be goofy.”
